Bulwarks are battlefield healers and protectors. They are brave to a fault, rushing into the fray to protect those in need, healing the fallen, and when necessary, sacrificing themselves to save a comrade. Though skilled warriors, they often have secondary roles as chaplains or religious counselors for fellow soldiers.

## Battlefield Healer 
3rd-Level Bulwark Feature 
You gain proficiency in the Medicine skill. If you are already proficient, double your **PB** instead for checks made with that skill.
In addition, you gain a new way to use your Support Action feature. You can now attempt to stabilize a dying creature as a bonus action instead of an action, and when you successfully stabilize a creature, it automatically regains hit points equal to your vanguard level + your CHA modifier and becomes conscious.
## War Banner 
3rd-Level Bulwark Feature 
You gain the following War Banner option.
### War Banner: Surgeons Standard 
You create a banner that heals your allies. When you first create the banner and at the start of each of your turns while the banner remains active, you can choose a number of conscious creatures equal to your **PB** within the banners range. Each target regains hit points equal to 1d4 + your CHA modifier.
The amount of healing increases as you gain levels in the vanguard class, becoming 2d4 at 7th level, 3d4 at 11th level, and 4d4 at 15th level.
## Safeguard 
7th-Level Bulwark Feature 
You have learned to shelter those around you from harm. As a bonus action, you can take a special defensive stance that remains active until the start of your next turn or until you become incapacitated. You and each friendly creature within 5 feet of you gain a +2 bonus to AC for the duration. As a reaction when a friendly creature you can see in that area is the target of an attack or spell that targets only that creature, you can cause the attack or spell to target you instead. 
You can activate this stance a number of times equal to your **PB**, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a short or long rest.
## Turn the Tide 
11th-Level Bulwark Feature 
Your inspiring words and deeds in the face of overwhelming odds stir the souls of your companions. As an action, you can expend a number of vanguard Hit Dice, up to a maximum equal to your **PB**. Roll the expended dice. You and each friendly creature within 30 feet of you regain hit points equal to the total + your CHA modifier. 
## Bastion of Defense 
15th-Level Bulwark Feature 
You gain several additional benefits when the defensive stance granted by your Safeguard feature is active:
- When you activate the stance, you gain a number of temporary hit points equal to your CHA modifier per friendly creature within 5 feet of you (up to a maximum of 20 temporary hit points). 
- You and each friendly creature within 5 feet of you have advantage on saves against spells and effects that deal damage in an area, such as the fireball spell or a dragons breath weapon, and you and each friendly creature within 5 feet of you have resistance to any damage dealt by such effects.
